When I came in USA in late 60's, Indidan restaurant used to served this churtney, because tamarind wasn't available than.
Yes, I have been looking for this chutney for almost 1/4 of the century.

The taste of Cranberries is similar to Amla
You can also make Pickles out of it.
For Pickles cut the cranberries in half deseed them.
Dry roast fenugreek seeds turmeric, grind them to fine powder..
In a kadai add sesame oil, Splutter mustard, cumin seeds Asafoetida Add the cranberries, chilli powder, salt half tsp powdered fenugreek powder.
Cook this on a low flame stirring occasionally till the cranberries are tender.
This has got a long shelf life.
